back to school & prioritizing yourself
To all the parents out there (your coach here included), the kids are back to school! And with that comes all the schedule changes, routines, activities, lunches, homework, and a million other things that somehow get added to the calendar. You may feel like your life is upside down at the moment - stuck in a handstand!
I’ve been thinking a lot about this time of year and how getting back into a routine can feel SO good. We thrive on routines, and there is something really nice about knowing what the week looks like again. But there’s also a side of back-to-school that I think we need to talk about: how quickly we put ourselves last.
Golden Rule #4 is Prioritizing Balance. But what does that actually look like for you?
When the kids go back to school, do you find yourself filling that time with everything else that needs to get done? Do you start moving your workouts around, skipping the gym, or telling yourself, “I’ll get back to it when things settle down?”
Or maybe you finally have a little quiet time and think, “I just want to sit on the couch and scroll.” Oh, I get it.
Sometimes you need to sit on the couch. Sometimes you need the quiet. Sometimes you need to do absolutely nothing. But I want you to ask yourself this: am I choosing that because I truly need the rest or am I once again putting myself at the bottom of the list?
And this is where I want you to come back to your WHY.
Why did you start?
What are you showing up for?
How do you want to feel?
How do you want to move?
How do you want to feel in your body?
We can always find a reason not to go. There will always be something else that needs to be done. The goalpost can keep moving forever if we let it. And this is where I believe having a coach and a community matters.
It is our job as coaches to remind you of what YOU said was important to you. Not to guilt you. But to help you remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish. You are allowed to take up space on your own calendar. You are allowed to make your health a priority.
Sometimes prioritizing yourself simply means putting your workout on the calendar and actually showing up — even when there are 27 other things you could be doing.
So as we head into this new season, I want you to think about one thing: Where can you make space for YOU this week?
Maybe it’s getting into the GLP 2–3 times a week. Maybe it’s taking a walk. Maybe it’s going to bed earlier. Maybe it’s simply giving yourself 30 minutes without feeling guilty about it.
Whatever it looks like for you, don’t forget that you are part of the equation, too.
One of my favorite parts of being your coach is helping you keep showing up for the person you are becoming.
You are the reason I do what I do.
