Coachability: The Missing Link in Your Progress

If you know me and know The GLP well, then you’ve likely heard it said many times:
“It’s not just about the workout.”

Because it’s not. It’s about progress.

And real, lasting progress comes from something deeper.
It’s your ability to receive, process, and apply guidance. That is coachability!

Coachability isn’t a personality trait. It’s a skill, a set of skills you can build.

Let’s break down what those skills are and what they look like both inside the gym and throughout your Golden Life.

1. Attentiveness — Are you actually present?
This is more than just hearing cues.

It’s being in your body during a lift.
It’s catching the why behind a correction from your coach.
It’s listening intently to feedback from a friend.

Coachability starts with presence.

2. Willingness to Learn — Are you open, even when it’s uncomfortable?
This is about being a beginner again—or even being bad at something.

It’s letting go of looking good and doing what’s actually best for you.

In the gym, this might look like rebuilding foundational movement instead of chasing intensity. In your Golden Life, it might mean trying a style of movement that’s totally new.

3. Feedback Seeking — Do you lean in… or avoid?
The most coachable people don’t wait for feedback—they ask for it.

“Can you watch this rep?”
“How do you think that went?”

For some people, avoiding feedback isn’t about ego—it’s about fear. Fear of being wrong, judged, or overwhelmed.

Friendly reminder: The GLP is your safe space ;)

4. Feedback Receptivity — How do you respond when you’re corrected?
This is a big one.

Do you shut down? Get defensive? Or get curious?

At GLP, we see this all the time. The members who grow the fastest aren’t the most fit or the luckiest—they’re the ones who can hear,
“Hey, let’s adjust this,”
…and respond with,
“Okay, show me how.”

This shows up in life, too. It’s a partner saying, “I didn’t like how you said that,” and you responding with, “Okay—how would you like me to respond?”

5. Persistence Through Setbacks — What happens when it gets hard?
Progress isn’t linear—and neither is life.

There will be plateaus, injuries, and shifting seasons.

Coachability means continuing to show up and stay engaged, even when things aren’t going perfectly.

6. Feedback Implementation — Do you actually apply it?
This is the difference-maker.

You can listen to feedback all day, but if nothing changes, there’s no growth.

Bringing it all together.
coachability isn’t what you know, it’s what you do with it.

And building your Golden Life isn’t about doing more, it’s about becoming someone who’s willing to learn, adapt, and grow through every season.

Stay open. Stay curious. Keep showing up.
We’ll meet you there.
